The Two big schools in Kandy, Trinity College will face St. Anthony’s College in their 100th encounter at the Pallekale International Stadium over the weekend. The Trinity-Anto big match is undoubtedly one of the oldest games in Lankan school cricket.
With so much attention, both teams will look to stamp their authority for recognition as all eyes will be on the historic contest.
Both sides have produced world class cricketers including the great Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ravi Ratnayake and Ruwan Kalpage. Niroshan Dickwella, Kaushalya Weeraratne and Piyal Wijetunga are some other names in the long list.
Trinity College has a total of 23 outright wins and the Antonians have just 11. Meanwhile, 61 matches have ended in a tie.
“We are very excited about the 100th Big match this year and I hope our boys will be able to retain John Halangoda Memorial trophy,” said old Antonian Zimry Liyabdeen.
We wish the both teams all the very best for their 100th game.
