Sri Lanka got the better of Malaysia (41-7) in the plate finals to finish fifth in the second leg of the Asian Sevens Rugby series in Korea over the weekend.
South Korea won the leg beating Japan (17-12) in the all-important finals.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan women’s sevens rugby team finished fifth with Japan cruising to the title. Ayesha Kaluarachchi and Thanuja Weerakkody steered the lady tuskers to a (12-0) win over Thailand.
In the Men’s plate finals against Malaysia, Sri Lanka led (19-07) at the halfway mark. A much better second half gave them a comfortable (41-07) win.
Sri Lanka flew past Phillipines (42-00) but lost to Hong Kong in the quarter finals (31-14).
The third leg is scheduled to be held in Colombo on the 14th and the 15th of October 2017.
