With Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings already through, five teams are in contention for third and fourth place playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
As it stands, the Sunrisers are well ahead on top of the table with 18 points, 9 wins, and 3 defeats. With 8 wins, the Super Kings are in second place, 2 points behind the league leaders.
The Knight Riders take 3rd place with 14 points, yet to cement their place in the all-important playoffs. Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royal, and King XI Punjab are level on points, just 2 behind KKR.
Finally, the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 10 points in 12 games will rely on wins and net run rate to get through.
Mumbai kept their qualification hopes alive beating Kings XI Punjab despite a late KL Rahul show at the Wankhede Stadium last evening. A win against the Daredevils will put them in a good position to qualify for the playoffs.
However, if they lose, they’ll hope Kings XI, Rajasthan, and RCB go down with them. RCB will only have to lose to SRH in this unlikely scenario.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
In RCB’s case, they’ll have to win both games by a good margin. Alternatively, they will also hope Mumbai and KKR lose their last two games.
Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI will have to win their last game and hope Mumbai lose, RCB beat Rajasthan and lose to Sunrisers in the final match. Just a win will not help Ravi Ashwin’s side as their net run rate is way low in comparison.
The Royals will have to win the last game and hope neither Mumbai or RCB gets to 14 points.
Kolkata Knight Riders
A win for the Knight Riders will see them through to the playoffs. If Mumbai and Bangalore finish on 14, a KKR loss will put them out of the all-important playoffs.
