Indian skipper Virat Kohli powered his side to another important win to complete a 9-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium last evening. India won the only Twenty20 against Sri Lanka by 7 wickets and 4 deliveries to spare.
Batting first, two solid knocks from Dilshan Munaweera and Ashan Priyanjan steered Sri Lanka to 170 in the given 20 overs. Munaweera made 53 in just 29 deliveries with 4 sixes under his name. He was dismissed in unfortunate fashion as the bat slipped off his glove while attempting to smash the ball out of the part.
For India, Chahal emerged as the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets under his name.
In response, the visitors lost two early wickets but Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey took the side to another easy win. Skipper Kohli was adjudged player of the match and the series.
“You see how Virat runs between the wickets, and you see the respect he commands on the field as a leader – he’s a role model to people and he pulls people with him. When you look at the way they go about their work and the culture that Virat has created within that team, it’s very, very impressive,” said the Sri Lankan head coach Nic Pothas.
