After losing to the Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the final qualifier ahead of the all-important final at Hyderabad on Sunday.
Earlier this week a surprise defeat lifted the Supergiants through to the tournament final.
Meanwhile, the Knight Riders took the long route, escaping past the Sunrises in a 2 am finish at Bengaluru. They have the momentum but stats are hugely in favor of Rohit Sharma’s side.
In the first qualifier, half-centuries from Rahane and Tiwary followed by an MS Dhoni special carried the Supergiants to 162 in 20 overs. Lasith Malinga emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai with figures of 1 for 14 in 3 overs.
In response, the Mumbai Indians only made 142 in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar bagged three wickets each for the Supergiants.
Tonight’s final qualifier will be played at Bengaluru.
